Biologist and ranger Eric Powers knows the Preserve’s wildlife and landscape like the back of his hand after years of leading marvelous nature programs, including the popular Owl Prowl, Pond Exploration, and the fantastic Overnight Wilderness Survival courses. He was named the 2020 Long Island Sierra Club Environmentalist of the Year and is the Program Director for Center for Environmental Education & Discovery.

In 2022, Ranger Eric will lead visitors of all ages on exploratory adventures across the Preserve’s grounds. Your expert guide will share a wealth of information about nature’s wonders:.

2022 Outdoor Adventures

Pond Exploration
Saturday, April 9 at 10 – 11 am

Discover the fascinating residents of our fresh water pond environment in an interactive family program lead by Biologist Eric Powers.  We’ll get our hands dirty – and maybe even our feet wet – as we use nets, buckets and magnifying lenses for this fun family adventure!

Foraging Walk
Saturday, July 9 at 10 – 11 am

Ranger Eric will lead us on a trip through the forest in search of edible plants! We’ll learn which greens, herbs and flowers that grow naturally are safe to eat, and have a few snacks along the way.  This program is for adults and children 8+ only.  All participants must sign a waiver form.

Members: $12 per adult; $2 per child
Non-Members: $16 per adult, $6 per child; includes parking

Purchase tickets in advance and meet at Castle Gould’s Clock Tower.  Face masks are required for unvaccinated individuals.
