Jerry Shore (1925 – 2014)
Artist. Innovator. Visionary.
A proud resident of Port Washington for over six decades and a Navy veteran of World War II, Jerry Shore was a man of extraordinary talent and passion. After a successful career as the co-founder and CEO of Park Electrochemical Corp., a multinational manufacturing company, he retired in 1996 and fully embraced his lifelong love of sculpture – and endeavor he pursued until his passing in 2014.
Inspired by and through study with the renowned sculptor Alfred Van Loen, Jerry immersed himself in the exploration of form and design. Working from his Port Washington studio, he specialized in steel plate, crafting large, minimalist sculptures intended for public enjoyment. Each piece began with a vision – often developed through sketches – and evolved into a bold, full-scale work of art.
Jerry’s sculptures were exhibited in Chicago, and on site at the college in Marquette, Michigan. He was honored with one solo exhibition at the Port Washington Public Library. Jerry remained deeply engaged in his community, with several of his works displayed along the Bay Walk, offering moments of reflection and inspiration to passersby. His art reflects a deep appreciation for balance, simplicity, and the connection between shape and space.
This installation was made possible through the generosity of the Shore and Coccarelli families, in partnership with the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy. Their shared mission is to preserve Jerry Shore’s legacy and inspire future generations to discover joy in art, creativity, and community.
