Spring Celebration May 6 • 1-4 PM Every season brings beautiful changes to the Preserve’s landscape, and, in springtime, we celebrate the return of longer days, warmer temperatures – and budding trees, shrubs, and perennial plants. While these blooms occur naturally, we have much work to do to plant colorful annuals, fresh herbs, and plants to attract butterflies. Visitors are invited to help with these plantings! Children can enjoy outdoor activities and a range of spring-themed projects, and observe presentations on raptor conservation, with live rescued owls and hawks to see up close. At 2 pm, the Conservancy welcomes Senator Elaine Phillips, member of the NYS Task Force on Lyme & Tick Borne Diseases and Dr. Joseph C. Licata, a pediatrician who developed “Dr. Joe’s Tick It Away,” to discuss the signs and symptoms of Lyme disease as well as the proper removal of ticks on children, adults, and animals. Stony Brook Southampton Hospital – Regional Tick Borne Disease Resource Center will provide free information packets for all visitors. Seasonal CelebratioN
