12 Sands Point Preserve Conservancy The Sands Point Preserve Conservancy proudly honors Jack Mandel for his gracious spirit and dedication to his family, business, and community. Jack and his parents came to the United States as immigrants from Germany just prior to the outbreak of World War II. After graduating from the State University of New York, Jack served for two years in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he joined his father in the family business, Har-Man Importing Corporation, founded in 1948, one of the world’s largest distributors of beads and rhinestones, specializing in Swarovski Elements and Czech glass beads. Jack is currently President of the company, and his daughter, Alisa, is CEO. Jack and his wife of 37 years, Joyce, moved to Port Washington in 1975 and to Sands Point in 1987. Tonight’s honoree has served the community in a multitude of ways, holding a range of leadership positions, including President of The Community Synagogue and Member of the Board of Trustees; Member of the Board of Trustees, Sands Point Civic Association; Member of the Grievance Committee, Village Club of Sands Point; and Member, Parkinson’s Foundation of the New York Institute of Technology. We honor Jack for his great friendship and support for the Sands Point Preserve where he is a member of the Conservancy’s Board of Directors, serving on the Executive and Finance Committees.
