b'for many years, i served as a member and chairperson of the Village of sands Points historic landmarks Preservation Commission. the sands Point Preserve was listed on the national register of historic Places. When i became a board member of the Conservancy, i held the steadfast belief that this was a glorious historic treasure in our community, and we must preserve it.in the early years, we explored hempstead house and Castle Gould, and found stories and photographs of an important past.it became our mission to honor this past while also bringing it back to life for today. We were all hands-on, serving as everything from planners and project managers to bar tenders and errand runners. We created wonderful programs like Jazz thursdays, Village day, and opera performances. We began to use our facilities again, hosting celebrations in hempstead house and mrs. Guggenheims rose Garden and establishing our Welcome Center and Gift shop in Castle Gould.today, we continue to assert our place in the community with unique events like drive-in movies, the fairy festival, and Princess days at the Castle. and our new hempstead house Gardenwhich spent a year in transformation, guided by a dedicated committeeimpeccably complements the architecture of the Preserve.it is the perfect representation of our mission: to create relevance for today while also reflecting our significant history.Georgia DeYoung'
