Northwinds Symphonic Band Children’s Concert

The Northwinds Symphonic Band will present an afternoon of music, fun for families with children of all ages.

Conductors Helen P. Bauer and Brandon Bromsey have put together a program designed to engage young listeners and aspiring young musicians.

Summon The Heroes, by prolific composer John Williams, is the highly recognizable fanfare composed for the 1996 Olympics and dedicated to the Boston Pop’s trumpet soloist, Tim Morrison. Three talented student flutists from the band will perform Leroy Anderson’s The Pennywhistle Song, and the band will play Sousa Portrait, a narrated piece that highlights the composer’s life story and most famous marches.

Also on the program are well known selections from The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music. During intermission, there will be an opportunity to take photos with life-sized cut-outs of The Wizard of Oz characters.

Band members will introduce and demonstrate their instruments, and the children in attendance will be given the opportunity to take the podium as guest conductors.

Tickets will be available the day of the performance.
