On Sunday, July 8 at 3 – 4:30 pm, join Tree Sister Hildur Palsdottir and Port Washington Monarch Alliance founder David Jakim as they reconstruct the geological history of the preserve. Discover extraordinary environmental features, including gigantic boulders strewn erratically across the landscape, patterns in sediment layers on the beach dune cliffs showing evidence of ancient rivers, and wind-blown dust from the bottom of the Long Island Sound, atop the same cliffs. As we walk along the beach, we will have the opportunity to learn about the different types of sands, pebbles, and rocks and look for Indian Paint Pots traditionally used by Native Americans for face painting. We’ll observe coastal geological processes and discuss the consequences of climate change. Meet in front of Castle Gould’s Clock Tower!
