The Conservancy now offers enriching full-day adventure programs when schools are closed for the holidays. Utilizing the Preserve’s natural resources and historic mansions, our outstanding educators guide children in grades K – 5 through outdoor exploration, scientific discovery, creative art work, movement and games, and free play. Each day offers interdisciplinary exploration of a theme in nature, and activities reflect curriculum at each grade level. This drop-off program runs from 9 am to 4 pm; activities will take place inside the mansions in case of inclement weather.
Columbus Day: Monday, October 14
Harvest Joy!
Celebrate autumn across the Preserve! Children will explore the woods, beachfront, and green open space to discover seasonal changes in the environment, and witness how native wildlife prepares for winter. We’ll harvest vegetables and herbs from the Organic Vegetable Garden and prepare a special donation to families in need. We’ll gather natural materials from the grounds to create a Fall Harvest wreath to take home.
Election Day: Tuesday, November 5
Navigation: It’s Your World
Children will learn basic navigation skills as they explore the Preserve’s beautiful grounds, from the woods and beachfront to the grassy lawns. We’ve observe the diverse wildlife and many features in each environment. We’ll create clay relief sculptures of the Preserve’s varied landforms to take home.
Veterans Day: Monday, November 11
Conservation: Earth Matters
Children will help tend the earth – right here at the Sands Point Preserve. Our young environmentalists will explore the Preserve and particpate in Citizen Science activities across the park; we’ll help collect data on a range of conservation topics and join the global effort to generate helpful research statistics. We’ll design 3D mandalas to take home.
