Join us on Saturday, April 17 at 1 pm to raise awareness about growing food insecurity – we’ll unite in a fun dance called the Jerusalema to support Plant a Row for the Hungry‘s mission to grow fresh produce for local families in need.
Over the past few months, Jerusalema by South African DJ Master KG has trended like wildfire on social media. Communities across the world have posted their version of the dance – see the news coverage here. Now it’s our turn – all ages and abilities will dance to raise funds for this critical cause.
After you register for the event, you’ll receive an email message with an easy, step-by-step video created by Port Washington’s Danceworks, NY – it will give you a chance to practice the moves in advance of the day. When we gather on April 17 – outdoors, masked, and socially distanced – Danceworks instructors will lead us in a few lively rehearsals. Our final take will be recorded by a drone flying overhead and shared on social media to build awareness and support for this issue and to Plant a Row for the Hungry.
To join the event, contribute $20 per person to Plant A Row for the Hungry, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and admission to the Preserve will be waived starting at noon. You’re welcome to spend the afternoon – bring a picnic, walk the forest trails, visit the Woodland Playground!
Donations will fund 1) essential vegetable garden fencing to prevent animals from eating the crops; and 2) grants for 25 students who will help maintain and harvest the gardens as part of the Summer Student Growing Program. All produce grown is donated to the families who are food insecure in Port Washington.
Plant A Row for the Hungry needs to reach its fundraising goal of $12,000, so please consider giving more and asking others to support this cause, too. Ask friends and family to sponsor you by making a donation in your name. To make an additional donation to Plant A Row for the Hungry, please click here.
This event is limited to 200 people, per NYS COVID-19 restrictions, so register soon!
Since the Conservancy established our organic vegetable garden in 2018, we have been donating produce to the community in partnership with Plant a Row for the Hungry. We are honored to host this event – all participants are invited to enjoy the afternoon at the Preserve, with our thanks for supporting this very important cause.
Plant a Row for the Hungry, a 501(c)(3 ) nonprofit organization, plays a major role in our community by providing fresh produce – over 40,000 pounds of vegetables are grown and delivered to local Port Washington food pantries.
