FAQs

  • Why a Health and Wellness Fair at the Sands Point Preserve?
Each year, we receive heartfelt testimonials from visitors who share how their time spent in nature on our beautiful Preserve has positively impacted their health and well-being. We’re proud that so many people from neighboring towns join the Preserve for the purpose of nurturing, protecting, and sustaining their health. As part of our ongoing commitment to our members and visitors, we’re hosting our first Health and Wellness Fair. Our goal is to engage the community and offer them valuable resources to support their personal health and wellness journeys.
  • What is the Event?
This is a tabling event. Practitioners may apply to host a table and meet with community members to describe their services and methodologies. There are no break-out sessions or areas for private hands-on work, classes, or demonstrations. The information you will deliver to the public will be in the form of conversation, hand-outs, brochures, business cards, signage, etc.  The only hands-on work will be work that can be done or demonstrated at your table in the public forum. In addition, the Dept. of Health prohibits the distribution or “tasting” of any supplements, medicines, herbs, snacks, etc.
  • What types of practitioners are you seeking?
We welcome health and wellness experts from all Western (allopathic) medical or mental health practices, as well as those representing complementary and alternative practices including, but not limited to:

   Traditional alternative medicine such as:

– Acupuncture

– Naturopathy

Please note: We are cognizant of the fact that many practitioners/therapists/educators/ offer multi-disciplinary or integrative approaches, and that many practices cross “boundaries” by their very nature.

  •  Why Would I Want to Apply for a Table, and How Much does it Cost?
To spread the word of your great work and gain new clients!  For this first year, there is no application fee.  If the committee selects you as a participant, the fee for the table is $200.  The Sands Point Preserve is a non-profit organization and we hope to provide this as a free resource to the community (except for the $15 park entrance fee for non-members). Your table fee will go to cover advertising, signage, table rental, programs, security, etc.
  • Where Will the Health and Wellness Fair be Advertised?
    – Signage at the Preserve
    – Press release to all local news outlets
    – An ad in the full-run edition of Schneps Media newspapers in Nassau County.  (Formerly Anton Media
    News and Blank Slate Media)
    – The Preserve’s Facebook and Instagram pages
    – Facebook Ads
    – The Patch
    – The Preserve’s 10,000+ plus mailing list
  • Will there be a printed program?
Yes, the Preserve will produce a printed handout for guests that will include the name, type of work,  website, social media handles, and contact information for each practitioner.
  • What Will I Need to Bring?
The Preserve will provide each practitioner with a space in the exhibition hall, a table and four chairs. You will need to bring a tablecloth, signage describing who you are and what you’re offering, and any literature or give-aways that you will want people to take.  (Again, please note that in accordance with Dept. of Health guidelines, you may not distribute anything that can be consumed.  If you sell product at your practice, you may direct people to your site for purchase.)
  • Can I Sell Product?
    No.
  • How Will You Select Participants?
Our committee, which includes a somatic educator, will make decisions based on the following criteria:
    – The completeness/professionalism of your application.
    – The uniqueness of your practice. We can’t, for example, have ten chiropractors or ten yoga teachers. We
are trying to offer a range of practices.  If you are one of ten local chiropractors, apply quickly before the
    spots fill up!
    – Ease of communication. As a non-profit with a small staff, we value partners with clear communication
who will efficiently provide information and table fee when asked.
  • When Should I Apply?
