Plein Air Painting

Join Artist Lori Lee as she leads a series of Plein Air Painting Classes at the preserve this spring. Connect to the natural beauty and grandeur of the grounds, painting on site in the open air. Our classes are open to all levels, from beginners to advanced painters. Lectures will be offered with instruction in all aspects of painting landscapes from life. Students will learn both wet-on-wet techniques (alla prima) and indirect painting techniques, with a focus on executing dynamic compositions that capture a moment in time while experiencing immersion in nature. In the case of inclement weather, class will take place in our learning studio using indirect techniques from previously procured reference materials.

Plein Air Painting Classes are open to adult students aged 18 and up. Supplies are not included. A suggested supply list will be forwarded upon class registration. Students may choose their own medium (oils, acrylics, watercolor, gouache, pastel, charcoal, pen/ink or digital) but lectures will focus on traditional oil painting techniques, many of which can be adapted for acrylics.
