If you like wild foods, this is a tour for you!

Join “Wildman” Steve Brill for a special foraging tour of mid-spring plants on the preserve. We’ll search for herbs and greens found in sunny and partially shaded areas, including lemony sheep sorrel and wood sorrel, spicy poor man’s pepper and hedge mustard, piquant green brier, string bean-flavored Asiatic dayflower, garlic-flavored garlic mustard, and the flavorful common blue violet. Along the edges of the woods, we’ll look for root beer-flavored sassafras, and, along the beach, we’ll search for Atlantic seaweeds: rockweed, sea lettuce, and Irish moss, all with their own flavors and uses. The rainy weather may also bring out tasty spring mushrooms: morels, dryad’s saddle, wine-cap stropharias, and chicken mushrooms. This program is presented by Full STEAMM Ahead.
