Orienteering is an international sport of navigating diverse, and often unfamiliar, terrain by map and compass. Two levels of instruction are offered. If you have never used a compass or need basic refresher instruction, attend our introductory program and practice your skills on a simple orienteering field course on the Preserve’s open lawn. The long winter is over! As the Preserve awakens to the spring season, bring the family for an afternoon of seasonally-themed activities: take-home seed planting, live bird program, square dancing led by Jim Emory, family photo opportunities, and our much-awaited spring crafts rooms. Join storyteller, naturalist, and children’s author Eric Young, as he reads his book, The Rainbow Almond Tree. Discover the perils and joys of the rainforest – a wondrous natural place – and meet some live animals that dwell there, including a tree frog, a walking stick and a python.
